Today, Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03) released the following statement regarding the passage of the STOP School Violence Act of 2018:

"The House took a major step today to empower local law enforcement officials, schools, and students and give them the ability to identify and prevent threats before they take place. While I believe this is a positive first step, there is still work to do to properly secure and protect our schools. I will continue working in Congress to protect the Second Amendment and ensure that schools, localities, and states are provided with the resources necessary to make security decisions to keep the most vulnerable among us safe."

H.R. 4909, the Student, Teachers, and Officers Preventing (STOP) School Violence Act of 2018, authorizes $75 million annually in grant dollars to state and local schools for security measures. This bill passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 407-10.
